Toilets in Madagascar

What a subject hey? And so important! I just completed a review of sanitation approaches in Madagascar,  in plain words: I was visiting private and public toilets. Embarrasing subject? Not at all! People here were proud to show us their 'bathrooms', WCs, cans, johns, latrines, lavatories, outhouses, shithouses, privies and thrones!

  2. Hi Suzanne,

You forgot one other name for a toilet - PK -short for piccanin kaia, which means "small house" in the Zulu, Shangaan, and Sindebele languages. This term was used in South Africa and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).

I enjoy your blog. Keep up the good work.

    Cheers,
    Hugo

  4. For example, you may want to get 1 piece model with an regular flush toilet, rather than 2 pieces toilet with a gravity flush system. toiletconsumer.com
